Lake Pit Slick (2010)

The “Lake Pit” in Los Angeles’ Hancock Park is one of the La Brea Tar Pits that trapped and fossilized many extinct animals tens of thousands of years ago. Crude oil still seeps from fissures under the lake. The lighter ingredients in this hydrocarbon soup float on the surface of the lake, forming a slick that transforms the reflection of palm trees into a surrealistic scene.
