Las Vegas Golden Mirage (2005)

Detail of the exterior of the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Built in 1989 at a cost of $630 million, it was the most expensive Las Vegas hotel at the time. Tinted reflective windows are ubiquitous in Las Vegas high-rise hotels; the coating reflects infrared to save energy. But the Mirage’s windows also reflect the excess that’s synonymous with Las Vegas: Their distinctive golden tinting contains actual gold dust.
