Pioneer Inn (2006)

George Freeland was a Royal Canadian “Mountie” who traveled to Lahaina to “get his man.” After bringing the criminal back to justice, he decided he preferred sunny Hawaii to the Great White North. So he returned to Maui and built the Pioneer Inn, Lahaina’s first hotel. He also built Lahaina’s first cinema, which proved far more successful than the hotel. The hotel opened in 1901 and, amazingly, remained the only hotel in West Maui until Amfac started developing Kaanapali’s beach resorts in the 1960s.
