Central Library at Dusk (2011)

A late-afternoon view of the Los Angeles Central Library from the sixth-floor deck of the Bonaventure Hotel, across Flower Street.

The Library’s central pyramid is decorated with Egyptian-inspired mosaic and a sunburst motif that echoes the decoration inside the Library’s main rotunda. It’s topped with a replica of Lee Lawrie’s “Torch of Knowledge” sculpture. The original torch, in too fragile a condition to remain outdoors, is among the many works of art on display inside the Library.
